The project involves three main partners from Australia, China, and Hong Kong. Professor Lawrence T. Lam of the University of Technology Sydney, Australia is the Chief Investigator of the project. Professor Li Yang of the Guangxi Medical University, China is a Co-Investigator. Ms Prudence Wong, the Chief Officer (Services), of the Mental Health Association Hong Kong (MHAHK) is the industrial partner, who will coordinate and deliver the program.

THE PROJECT
This collaborative project aims to introduce the Mental Health First Aid program to the Health and Education areas of the Guangxi Province of China through the youth mental health education training in Guangxi. The training program is developed in Australia and will be provided through a mental health professional body in Hong Kong, the Mental Health Association Hong Kong (MHAHK). The MHAHK is an accredited body that is qualified to develop and deliver the Mental Health First Aid program in Hong Kong, Macau and China.
About 100-150 health and education professionals will be invited to participate in training programs. The Guangxi Medical University has connections within the local health and school systems and will provide support to recruit participants. The 14-hour training program will be conducted with a pre-and-post assessment on knowledge and skills in youth mental health as part of the program evaluation.Upon the completion of the training program with a pass grade of the qualification quiz, participants will be qualified as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.
A formal program evaluation will be conducted by the project team making use of the information collected from the pre-and-post assessment, as well as data gathered from the interactions with participants.
